In the late spring of 1999, we were one of the first Scout Groups in Staffordshire to have our own web site. The first version was made one Sunday afternoon by Gareth and Nick. You can see some of it here. Not all the content of this version has been archived!
By 2000, Gareth had completely redesigned the site and this version lasted with various modifications until 2006. A snapshot of the site from 2001 can be seen here.
In March 2006 the site went from a straight HTML site, to using the content management system, Joomla. You can see the archived version here (again bits are missing).
For the Group’s Centenary in 2008, the site was given another overhaul and converted to a WordPress site on which platform it still uses, with some different themes over the years. A partial archive of the 1st WordPress version is here.
Since then we’ve also created and used the following (some no longer online) –
1st Porthill Sites
- 1st Porthill Scout Group – The main website
- Porthill Scouts Remembrance Page – Information about our Scouts killed serving in the armed forces during war. Also information about the Porthill War Memorial.

- Porthill Scouts Photo Gallery – Photos of our activities since our earliest days.
